“Everyone says that the character they’re going to miss the most will be Aang or Zuko or one member of the group. But for me, the character I’m going to miss the most is Iroh. He inspired me so much and was one of the only characters that I could look up to. He was my role model.”
A:TLA 30 DAY CHALLENGE: 8th Day - Favorite Quote: “Pretty Much Everything Uncle Iroh Says” (Mostly when talking to Zuko)
(I’ll list a few)
[Zuko and the Pirate Captain are fighting] Uncle Iroh: Are you so busy fighting you cannot see your own ship has set sail? Prince Zuko: We have no time for your proverbs, uncle! Uncle Iroh: [points] It’s no proverb. Pirate Captain: Bleeding hog-monkeys! [runs off] Prince Zuko: [laughs, then sees the pirates sailing away on HIS ship] Hey, that’s MY boat! Uncle Iroh: Maybe it should be a proverb.
Prince Zuko: [Zuko and June are paralyzed] Uncle? I didn’t see you get hit with the tongue. Uncle Iroh: Shh. [June glares at Iroh]
Uncle Iroh: It’s nice to see old friends. Prince Zuko: Too bad you don’t have any old friends that don’t want to attack you. Uncle Iroh: [thinking] Hmmm… old friends that don’t want to attack me…
Uncle Iroh: Euch! This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice! Prince Zuko: Uncle, that’s what ALL tea is. Uncle Iroh: How could a member of my own family say something so horrible!
Uncle Iroh: Would you like a pot of tea? Prince Zuko: We’ve been working in a tea shop all day. I’m sick of tea! Uncle Iroh: Sick of tea? That’s like being sick of *breathing*!
And the most saddest one (make me cry every time)…
Uncle Iroh: Happy birthday, my son. If only I could have helped you. [sings, crying] Uncle Iroh: Leaves from the vine/ falling so slow/ like fragile, tiny shells/ drifting in the foam/ Little soldier boy/ come marching home/ Brave soldier boy/ comes marching home.
A:TLA 30 DAY CHALLENGE: 6th Day - Favorite Element Nation: “Air Nomads”
This is what I want —-> The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly concerns and found peace and freedom.
That’s why they are my favorites. I sincerely want to detach myself from any worldly concerns and live in peace and free. Besides they have the best animal (Flying Bisons and Lemurs) and like Uncle Iroh says, they developed a sense of humour, which is the cherry on top for me.
Mike and I were having a conversation with my friend/former professor while his young son was crawling all over his back and head, slapping him in the face, tugging on his ears, etc. To our amazement, my friend calmly continued the conversation while simultaneously playfully wrestling with his rambunctious son. A year and a half later, when we were coming up with the Airbender kids, we thought he would be a fun, chaotic personality to throw in the mix and test Tenzin’s patience and fathering skills.
Ryu gravitated to this character right away and enthusiastically worked on his design. Mike and I originally envisioned Meelo as a cute kid, but Ryu insisted, “I want him to be ugly.” Ha! We pulled Ryu back a bit and ended up with the lumpy-headed kid we all love. (I have a bit of a Klingon ridge on the top of my skull, so I can personally relate his lumpy-headedness. Mike, on the other hand, as you all know, has a perfectly formed head.)
